Twitch, LA

Project Highlights

  • For our fourth Twitch project, two joined forces with Gensler to create a high-intensity gaming-centric LA outpost that invites the platform’s most avid gamers to livestream on-site.

  • We outfitted LA-themed collaborative workspaces with fun, design-forward furniture that evokes the city’s iconic attractions, from Randy’s Donuts to the Griffith Observatory.

  • To provide a respite from the rocket-fueled vibe of this livestream powerhouse, we infused traditional workstations with clean-lined furnishings in soft, bright tones.

The high-octane nerd-out vibe of an expanding livestream empire

To create Twitch’s new LA outpost, two joined forces with designers at Gensler in our latest project for the livestream empire. For this venture, we built on our successful collaboration for Twitch hubs in New York, Seattle, and Irvine. It’s been seriously addictive fun to give visual expression to Twitch’s work-hard-to-play-hard ethos. Gensler’s design vision for Twitch LA was inspired by all things streaming and gaming. We selected furniture and designed custom pieces to reflect the high-octane world found at Twitch.

When playing games at work is encouraged

To lure Twitch’s most famous streamers—think one million plus followers—we helped outfit the Stream Room, where champion gamers can buckle in and flaunt their skills. Gensler designed this in-house gaming enclave to recognize and inspire Twitch’s premier users by giving them their own broadcast domain lodged in the birthplace of the platform’s software.

An industrial-style built-in shelving unit designed by Gensler keeps these quarters shipshape, so that the ultimate gaming console and chair, provided by Twitch, can take center stage. To hold it all together—literally—two designed an extra-large custom desk that fits three monitors and tucks snugly into the shelving unit.

Gaming at Twitch LA isn’t just for superstar streamers. The Gaming Room welcomes relaxed play and hangouts for Twitch employees. We furnished this living-room-style gamer-friendly lounge with two plush L-shaped sofas encircling two TVs.

To cozy up the ample space we chose two vibrant rugs striped in gradient blues and reds; placed side by side, they unify the space and indicate two discrete gaming areas. Echoing the rugs’ gradient pattern, we custom-upholstered each sofa in three different tones of blue and red. For a final dose of mod, we sourced a sleek black custom credenza as the dramatic centerpiece.

Cool style & cut-to-the chase comfort

For Twitch’s collaborative workspaces, two worked with Gensler to convey the creative sizzle at the heart of the company’s operations. To this end, Gensler’s dazzling 120-foot light element suggests the brewing of the next great brainstorm. This neon installation clusters above a 32-foot-long statement-making table. To add to the brio of these striking pieces, we chose Linden Chairs by Corral in a punchy mix of orange and wood-finish.

Two and Gensler supported Twitch’s hard-charging work style with casual, cut-to-the-chase minimalism. At left, the help-desk area—conveniently located just off the Gaming Room—transmits a low-key, we-got-this quality. With its boxy lines and dark woodgrain, the desk suggests a design-forward no-fuss cocktail bar. To bolster the quietly-hip ambiance, two selected Montmartre counter stools from Mitab in bright pops of blue.

For an intimate open workspace, pictured at right, we blended streamlined functionality with chic comfort. To sync with the matte-black ceiling and walls, two sourced a matte-black custom communal table, fabricated by local manufacturer Woodtech. As a counterpoint to the table’s dramatic angular lines, we selected Corral’s curve-backed Linden Chairs in a white-oak finish.

The swirly-patterned rug, which we sourced from Shaw Carpet, subtly animates this subdued work zone. In the back of this space we created another small living room area where workers can relax and grab TV time. In keeping with the space’s midnight hues, we chose a black low-slung Palo sofa by HEM and a dark purple lounge chair by Sancal.

Where ideas take flight: City of Angels-themed workspaces

Twitch LA was designed to express not only company culture but also the particular identity of its Los Angeles location. To inject local color, Gensler designed all the conference rooms and closed meeting spaces to celebrate a specific aspect of LA, with Twitch employees weighing in on theme selections. Now, coworkers can hit each other up for meetings at Watts Tower, Capital Records, Muscle Beach, or the Bradbury Building, without leaving the office.

We selected furniture that chimed in with the themes and also answered the project’s functional needs. Given the light-hearted, inventive vision for these spaces, standard office furniture was out of the question.

Themed after LA favorite Randy’s Donuts, this cozy conference room on the left radiates a retro charm inspired by the bakery’s sweet wares and 1950s-era architecture. In concert with Gensler-designed donut-glutted wallpaper, two tapped into a sugar-high throwback mood with an orange-accented Enwork Conference Table and deep orange Linden Chairs by Corral.

Meanwhile, themed for the Griffith Observatory, this small library on the right launches creatives into a galaxy of new ideas with its deep-space blues and Milky Way-speckled wallpaper. To help transport library users, we selected sun-yellow high-back armchairs by True Design and a chunky flying saucer of a coffee table by U. S. manufacturer Bernhardt.

Shifting to a lower gear on the virtual fast lane

As you’ve seen, matte black and saturated colors abound in Twitch LA’s collaborative work spaces, lounge areas, and conference rooms—places built to incite the collective collide and spark of ideas. But even the most driven workers need a breather from intensity. In contrast to the pedal-to-the metal energy, we selected workstations to induce a calmer atmosphere with a bright, light palette.

To provide an airy locus for collaboration and hot desking, we installed power-enabled blond-and-white Tonic Tables by Watson at each end of this narrow workspace.

Above, a middle-of-the-office nook shows how soft tones can make even a compact workspace feel quiet and spacious. For this petite collaborative area, we curated furnishings with rounded shapes in fresh white, pale rose, and dove gray. A power-enabled BYOT table by Pair and blush Bernhardt Chloe swivel chairs offer efficient function and soothing ambiance for intimate gatherings. We also slipped in a mini-lounge with a cozy upholstered Medinah Bench by Martin Brattrud. To delineate the space—and induce a work-friendly hush—we installed light-gray sound-dampening Paravan screens by Arper.
